Mark Kennedy believes that Swindon Town have displayed that they have players from all over the pitch who can score goals for them this season.

Three defenders chipped in during Saturday’s 3-2 win over Cheltenham Town, with wing-backs George Cox and Joel McGregor both getting off the mark either side of top scorer Will Wright’s third of the season.

Kennedy said ahead of the game that he felt there were many players from all over the pitch in the squad who have proven that they will produce in front of goal.

He said: “I think we have good goal scorers in the team when you go through it there are people with the ability to score goals.

“I think that Cox will get goals, he has been really unlucky not to have a few already, Gavin Kilkenny is technically excellent, [Joel] Cotterill will get goals, Ollie Clarke has proven that he will score goals, [Paul] Glatzel is a one in three striker, Aaron Drinan is a one in six, and Kabongo Tshimanga has proven that he is an excellent goal scorer.

“I am not going to go through everybody but Will Wright can score goals, I do believe that we have got goals in our team and they will come.”

This was quickly reaffirmed with the win at The EV Charging Points Stadium when the three goals came from defenders, with Cotterill’s strike against Newport County being the last attacking player to score.

Whilst Wright is the only player to have found the net more than once in the league so far this season for Town, Kennedy said that he believes they have shown they can get goals from all over the pitch with the victory over Cheltenham.

He said: “When we talk about what we call headlines after the game for coaches, the things that stand out in the game, I spoke to Marcus [Bignot] and you the other day that I really feel we have a team of players who can score goals, and we showed that today.

“The wing-backs have to chip in with goals and [Cox] has been knocking on the door for a while and I was pleased to see him and Joel get off the mark today in league football.

“Cox has played more football and he has shown in numerous games that he has got the ability to do that.

“So the goal scorers really pleased me today as they proved that.”
