Swindon recorded their second win of the season as they put four past Bristol Rovers as goals from Paul Glatzel, Joel McGregor and Botan Ameen sealed a comprehensive victory.

Here are five noteworthy points we logged from the win that pushes Town up to second place in their group.

McGurk could help Swindon’s creativity problems:

A common problem for Town this season has been their creativity but Sean McGurk proved tonight that he may be the key to those issues. The midfielder started his first game of the season last night and immediately made an impact, registering two assists in the first half. He constantly found himself in pockets of space, whether that was by dropping deep to help the team play out from the back or pushing forward down the left side where he linked up well with Jake Cain to cause trouble.

Nnamdi Ofoborh may have fought his way back into Kennedy’s plans:

After being given the green light to go out on loan for minutes, midfielder Ofoborh wanted to stay and fight for his place and he proved tonight that he may deserve a way back into the starting team. It was a solid performance in defensive midfield as he won five tackles which earned him man of the match shouts from supporters. With Joel Cotterill away on international duty, he may have a chance to start in the tie against Cheltenham.

Botan Ameen could be near the first team squad:

It was a dream debut for the Iraq youth international as he scored Swindon’s fourth goal of the night. Despite getting on the scoresheet, his overall performance showed glimpses of what he could potentially offer for the first team. He’s an energetic and powerful forward who likes to take defenders on and proves himself to be a handful. The 17-year-old is still raw however and may not be ready for the physical and technical step-up to League Two but he’s certainly one to keep an eye on.

A win boosts confidence:

It may just have been a victory against a rotated Bristol Rovers side but a win can only be good for Mark Kennedy’s team at the moment. It won’t turn the season around by any means but it does put the team in a better position ahead of Saturday’s clash at Cheltenham. It was nice to watch the Robins play with smiles on their faces and it gives us an idea of what football under Kennedy can look like.

Paul Glatzel needs to return to the starting line-up:

It’s been a tough start for Glatzel so far this season, scoring just one goal in ten league appearances. Tonight, however, he bagged two goals inside 12 minutes as he looks to recapture his form from last campaign. Even without his stellar performance tonight, he may already be in line to start with loanee striker Kabongo Tshimanga possibly out for the weekend. But he definitely proved his point that he should be in on merit regardless of injuries.
