Mark Kennedy was pleased about all aspects of Swindon Town's performance as they beat Bristol Rovers 4-0 in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.

For the second time this season, Swindon blew a team away during the first half on home turf and they got off to a rapid start with Paul Glatzel notching twice inside the opening quarter of an hour.

Before the halftime whistle had blown, two academy players got their first senior goals as Joel McGregor volleyed in from the edge of the box and then Botan Ameen headed in from a corner.

It was Swindon's biggest win over Bristol Rovers since Boxing Day 1913 to end their 13-match losing run across the three domestic cup competitions.

Kennedy highlighted many elements of the evening that had gone perfectly to plan as Swindon got back to winning ways ahead of Cheltenham Town.

He said: "There was lots of pluses: getting a clean sheet, getting minutes into players who needed them, the return of players from injury and getting minutes into their legs, debuts which were really important for the academy, Botan getting a debut goal, a first goal for Joel, and I thought all around it was very pleasing.

"I was really pleased for Migs [Miguel Freckleton], I thought it was an outstanding performance by him tonight, he showed real character and presence with his authority on the ball and leadership qualities as well.

"Tunmise [Sobowale] is growing every game and that is very pleasing to see.

"Selfishly, the big one for me, if I had one wish coming into the game then I wanted the win and a good performance.

"The performance is the number one most important thing because it leads to results but the win is very pleasing.

"Glatzel, as well, got a couple of goals, we have got huge belief in him and he is a fantastic player, I just wished he believed in himself as much as we believe in him."

Kennedy added that it was also pleasing to see another strong performance reflected in the score line, something that he believes hasn't always been the case this season.

He said: "Bristol Rovers were very strong with the team they came up with.

"I hope I don't come across as boring, but I never get too high and never get too low, I don't mean to offend anyone as when we lose a game or win a game I get as passionate as the next guy.

"But tonight I was pleased that the result was reflective of the performance because I don't believe that we have always got that this year when we have played well this year.

"That was good because they were very strong, they had a lot of very good players out and Matt's [Taylor] record as a head coach is outstanding.

"Going into the game, trust me, Bristol Rovers was not a game that I was looking forward to when we have been low on numbers, so to get that win is very pleasing."
