Swindon Town have been linked with a move for Peterborough United striker Kabongo Tshimanga as they look to add depth to their forward line.
Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke reported the interest last week in a loan move and The Adver are also aware of interest in the striker from Town in the striker either as a loan or potentially a permanent move.
There has been difficulty in the deal as Posh have been holding out for a valuation that has proved something of a stumbling block for a striker they signed for a hefty fee from Chesterfield a year ago following an initial loan move.
Speaking on The Hard Truth podcast, Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony said: “Tshimanga is obviously a striker and we have had offers from two top Non-League clubs that want to sign him, he is on our cap space and he said he doesn’t want to go to those clubs, that is his prerogative as a player.
“There is a club in League Two that have come in and they haven’t offered half of what the clubs in Non-League have offered.
“The player obviously wants to go there, but I said ‘We have spent money on you and we have to do what is right by the club and with all due respect, you are getting paid your wages.’
“This club in League Two are taking the absolute mick, the offer is worse than the Bradford [City] offer for Romoney [Crichlow].
“And I am just like ‘No, you can go f*** yourself, we have done you loads of favours in the past, so no.’”
Swindon are keen to add a fourth striker before the end of this window to bolster the current trio of Harry Smith, Aaron Drinan, and Paul Glatzel, as Marcus Bignot said after the Wycombe Wanderers friendly.
He said: “We have got three really good centre-forwards, but we know we have to bring in in that area, you can’t carry three centre-forwards with the system that we play.
“It was really important that all three get minutes because they are really valuable to us and so we had to rejig.
“It was not ideal in terms of what we have done, but I am sure that everyone will be in agreement that having those three getting the minutes under their belt getting ready for Chesterfield, all three are in a really good place mentally and physically.”
