Mark Kennedy said that Harry Smith is already showing why Swindon Town looked to bring him to the club in his performances during pre-season.

Smith is currently the only attacker that Town have signed this summer when he arrived after leaving Sutton United having scored 11 goals in the fourth tier last term.

The striker netted his first two goals of pre-season against Melksham Town on Tuesday night and Kennedy said that across each game he has demonstrated the characteristics that attracted Swindon to him.

He said: “I am really pleased for him that he scored because that is what they want to do and the longer that they don’t score then other people talk about it.

“So, I am pleased for how he got his goals tonight, but on Saturday I was super impressed with him against Swansea, I thought his link-up was really good.

“Unfortunately for Harry at six-foot-five, I thought he dominated in the air on Saturday but when you are six-foot-five people expect you to dominate and they are underwhelmed when you don’t.

“I thought his link-up play, his hold-up play, and his aerial play on Saturday was super impressive and then tonight he got a couple of goals, so he will be pleased with himself.

“We are pleased for him, but there is a lot more to it than just scoring goals and he has come in and showed up why we have brought him in.”

Smith is one of a group of experienced players to have joined this summer, with one of them in Ollie Clarke having captained the team when he has been on the pitch, and Kennedy said he is pleased to have multiple leaders in the squad.

He said: “[Will Clarke be captain?] No, he was captain tonight. I am not saying that he won’t be captain but he has been a standout performer.

“Since I have come in there have been two or three people who have really stood out but you need to get to know people and understand what makes them tick; some people don’t want to be captain, they just want to be quiet in the background and focus on their roles.

“Thankfully we are in a situation where at least three or four people can be outstanding captains for an outstanding club – it is something we will sort out but it is very far down my list of priorities.”
