Chippenham Town boss Gary Horgan that his side’s 0-0 draw against Welling United was one of their least effective attacking performances of the season.
The Bluebirds had a good opportunity to open the scoring early on as following patient build-up, Eddie Jones fired a cross onto the head of Matt McClure, but his header went wide.
In a performance for which he earned National League South team of the week honours, Will Henry denied a certain goal for the Wings as Jephte Tanga was allowed through on goal, but the goalkeeper got down to make the save.
Chippenham then had the crossbar to thank in the second half as Cameron Green’s low ball found Kain Adom, but his close-range effort flicked up off the bar and over.
Henry made another point-blank save just minutes from time as the Bluebirds were caught playing out from the back, allowing Dominic Odusanya to play Tristan Abrahams through on goal, but again Henry denied him.
Despite earning a point at Park View Road, Horgan felt his side had not played as well with the ball as they had in recent weeks.
He said: “In terms of the way we wanted to play and the way we have been playing, particularly in terms of possession, it is probably one of the loosest and least effective we have been all year.
“Which is strange because the week before we were really really good and were beaten 2-1, yet this time we came back with a point on the road.
“We went with a different shape and we only had the week to work on it, and with one of those sessions we were slightly hampered with availability.
“I take responsibility for changing the shape, and maybe that was it, we weren’t quite as tight as we should have been with that.
“This is something that we have been toying with to try and get the best out of the personnel that we have got, to try and help some individuals.
“Whilst we have a clear way we want to play, sometimes you have to help people within that.
“For the first 30 minutes of the game before the injury [to Jake Evans], we were on top, so it is something we will certainly look to in the future.
“Hopefully when we get the right personnel in the right areas, it is something that will work well for us.”
