SWINDON Town loanee Harry Parsons hinted he is hoping for another opportunity in the Football League following his FA Cup second-round goal.
Speaking after his loan club Chippenham Town suffered a 6-1 defeat to League One Burton Albion on Sunday, the forward revealed that he would consider extending his stay with the Bluebirds, which began in October.
But Parsons, who has less than a year left on his Swindon contract, also admitted he wants to play at a higher level than the National League South.
He said: “Obviously everyone wants to be playing at the highest level possible.
“If that’s at Chippenham and we’re doing well, winning games, then I would never turn down the opportunity to stay here and keep pushing us in the right direction.
“Obviously if I get an opportunity that’s higher up, in the conference or League Two, then I’m going to snap that up.
“I want to be playing at the highest level, and I think everyone in the dressing room wants to be playing at the highest level possible, that’s what football is about”.
Parsons is seizing his opportunity to not only play, but also to regain match fitness after making just 20 appearances for Swindon in over two seasons.
He added: “I’ve come on loan here to play games and score goals. Gary [Horgan] has had a lot of faith in me, I think I’ve played every game.
“Every game I’m getting fitter and fitter, today I played 90 minutes against League One opposition and did a lot of running which is what I’m happy about.
“That’s what I want to get out of this, I want to get fitter and stronger. I want to prove I can score goals against League One teams and keep doing it in the National League South and hopefully, my opportunity will come”.
On the pitch Parsons showed a glimpse of quality on the hour mark when he ruthlessly slotted the ball into the bottom corner after being played in by a clever disguised ball.
“I just slotted it bottom right”, he recalled. “I think the keeper went the right way he just couldn’t get there”.
Despite Parsons’ well taken consolation goal Chippenham crashed out of the FA Cup in the second round, the furthest they had ever progressed in the tournament.
They beat Lincoln City 1-0 at home in the first round, but did not have enough against Burton and bowed out thanks to goals from former Swindon player Jonny Smith, Deji Oshilaja (2), Bobby Kamwa and Sam Winnall (2).
