MARLBOROUGH maintained the club’s 100 per cent record in Regional Two South Central last weekend following a 55-3 victory over Shipston-on-Stour.
In the first ever meeting between the pair, Dave Pittams’ side were in no mood for pleasantries and set about running in try after try against their hosts.
Marlborough opened their account inside the opening 10 minutes at the end of a free-flowing move which was finished off by Will Grant – the visiting kicker added two more points to the score via a successful conversion.
Hosts Shipton kicked their only points of the afternoon in the 10th minute via a penalty, but the next Marlborough try came quickly after the restart. Akariva Seruvatu offloaded to Weir Filikitonga who powered over the whitewash in the corner.
Moments later, it was Seruvatu’s turn to score. After Marlborough won a scrum against the head near their own line, Seruvatu sprinted 75 meters to dot down under the posts. The speedy winger added a second try 10 minutes before half-time.
Just before the break, Callum Hunt scored the first of three tries by collecting a cross-field kick by Will Reeve and beating two defenders to make the score 31-3.
Hunt added his second the other side of half-time after an excellent searching pass from Viliame Waqanidrola.
In the 58th minute, Marlborough won an attacking line out and set up a maul for Gareth Smith to score his first try for the team.
The visitors crossed twice more through Reeve and Hunt to add the cherry on top of an already impressive cake.
Elsewhere in Regional Two South Central, Devizes lost 39-24 away at Newbury Blues. Swindon beat Grove 31-22 at Greenbridge.
In Regional Two Tribute Severn, Chippenham hammered Gordano 73-10 on the road while Trowbridge were well beaten 54-12 away at Matson.
Royal Wootton Bassett's tough start to the Regional One South Central season continued following a 39-5 defeat away at Havant.
