CHIPPENHAM Town endured a mixed Bank Holiday weekend following one win and one defeat in National League South.
The Bluebirds secured a 1-0 victory at home to Hungerford Town on Saturday in the pair’s M4-corridor derby thanks to a late Luke Russe strike.
But Gary Horgan’s men could not extend the club’s run of three consecutive clean sheets as they lost 3-1 away to newly-promoted Taunton Town on Bank Holiday Monday despite Cain Bradbury’s equaliser.
An inconsistent few days for Chippenham was not helped by Spencer Hamilton’s injury, which Horgan has suggested may rule the defender out for between two and three weeks.
Sharing his thoughts on both results, the Chippenham manager said: “Saturday’s game was one of two halves really.
“In the first half, we weren’t as good as I would have liked, but in the second we were much more like what I would expect. We had most of the play, and the pressure eventually told.
“It was a good win, and we made it three clean sheets on the bounce as well, so that set us up nicely for Monday.
“But then on Monday, we had to contend with another injury as we lost Spencer Hamilton, so we had to adapt without him.
“We didn’t start too well in a game of limited chances, but there were some really good performances from some of the academy boys to help get us back to 1-1.
“But we conceded two goals in quick succession, and although we created a number of chances we just couldn’t score.”
Three points from two games across the weekend leaves Chippenham in 20th ahead of a home clash against Dartford on Saturday.
Horgan is targeting more wins at the Thornbury Surfacing Stadium as the division’s current lowest scorers – with two – attempt to climb away from the relegation places.
Horgan said: “We know we’re going to have to amass some points somewhere, and the obvious target is at home.
“Again, we’ll have to patch ourselves up because Spencer is going to be out for at least another two weeks.
“We’ll try and devise a game plan for Saturday that makes us difficult to beat and gives us a chance of winning the game.
“If we’re going to achieve something this year then we’re certainly going to have to win our home games.”
