CORSHAM Hockey Club’s men got together for a virtual celebration to mark their probable promotion.

Having not dropped a point at their Springfield Leisure Centre home all season, they sat top of the Verde Recreo League East Central 1 when the season was closed one game early due to the coronavirus, holding an unassailable lead over their rivals.

Unable to celebrate their title win together, the team instead shared a drink online over Skype to mark the occasion.

Captain Matty Lewis said: “It’s been a hell of a season for the boys and with everything that is currently going on it would have been incredibly unjust to not celebrate somehow.

“Our big night out was unfortunately called off, for good reason of course, so this was the next best thing to do.

“They have worked incredibly hard and have gone from strength to strength.

“Only a few seasons ago we were struggling to field a whole side in the lowest tier of west country hockey, so to now be promoted into Central 2 is such a reflection of the hard work the boys put in each week.

“There is an element of looking out for each other during the current climate and keeping an eye on our mates.”

As the men head up another league for their second promotion in three years, they are always on the lookout for new players. For more information visit
