DIVISION FOUR Corsham Centre B and Riverside Renegades share the number one spot in Division four, with the Centre on top by virtue of a slightly better goal difference. The Centre travelled to Steeple Ashton Rangers and already beaten them 5-0 earlier this season they were expecting a repeat performance but it wasn't to be as Nathan Holloway's side won a scrappy match 1-0 to inflict the Centre with their first loss of the season. Once the fog cleared from the Ashton pitch the game finally got underway and both teams never really reached top gear as the match was lacking continuity with most of the play being concentrated in the middle of the park with neither team playing much football. Steeple scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half when a long ball found under fire striker Jack Holdway who went through on goal, and took it a round the Centre's keeper James Whitehead before calmly slotting home. The second half was in keeping with the first, but the closest the Centre came to preserving their unbeaten record was when Ashley King's effort went just wide of the target following a goalmouth scramble, but other than that the Centre never really mounted a serious challenge to Ashton's defence who were there when they were needed.
Bradford based Riverside Renegades are locked together with Corsham Centre B on 10 points after they defeated draw specialists Chippenham United RAOB 3-1, and the win owned much to heroics of debutant keeper Darren Gant who had a brilliant first match between the posts for the Riverside which included a great penalty save. George Palmer put Riverside ahead when he scored from the penalty spot and Steve Meek double his teams lead which gave them a 2-0 advantage at the interval. United came back strongly in the second half and after they had a had a goal ruled out Steve McCleary scored one which counted which save them drag themselves back into the game and at 2-1 down they had the chance to level matters when they were awarded a penalty which was taken by Will Symons and brilliantly saved by keeper Darren Gant. Riverside and in particular Adam Hurd made United pay for their missed opportunity when he made the points safe for Lance Davis and his team when he added third late on.
Kings Arms (Market Lavington) and Somerford had to settle for a share of the points as the teams fought out the only draw of the day from the league's fixture programme, an entertaining match between the sides ended even at one apiece. Wayne Burry scored first for Somerford when he scored from the penalty spot on 65 minutes. Kings Arms drew level and secured their point 10 minutes later when Darren Folkard drove home an excellent free kick which looped over the Somerford keeper.
Trowbridge Town Supporters Club were at a lost to explain how they suffered a 5-1 defeat away at Corsham United who in spite of having the better of the first half were second best in the second half but scored three goals in the last five minutes to run out 5-1 winners with a result which was not a far reflection on the match. Joe Pritchard maintain his record of scoring in every league match so far when he put Corsham one up and before the break Dominic Reed scored his first of three when he made it 2-0. Trowbridge gave a debut to Nigel Penelhum and it was the substitute who fashioned a way back into the game for his team when he hit the target to give them a way back into the game. The goal seemed to breath new life into the Trowbridge side and they started to get on top but were unable to find an equaliser and with five minutes left they press the self-destruct button as United sunk them with three late goals. Dominic Reed made it 3-1 before Simon Jones put through his own goal to hand the points to Corsham but their was still time left for Corsham to add a fifth which went to Dominic Reed who completed his hat trick right on the final whistle.
The last time AFC Lyneham met The Three Crown United, the Three Crown's won 7-2 and since then United have got better and Lyneham have had to rebuild their team so manager Jason Raven was please with the way his team responded and he will view a 5-2 defeat as a good improvement in form for his team and if they can carry on getting better then their first win won't be that far away. Julian Collier netted his first goal of the season when his headed put the Three Crown's ahead. Adie Bray added number two and Paul Maddox's curled home a beauty to make it 3-0 and at this stage Tony Beasley's side looked ready to run riot, but Nick Alexander's great free kick for Lyneham started a come back for the hosts. The fight back was only temporary and another great finish form Maddox and a penalty from the same player took his tally for the game to three and advanced the Three Crown's tally to five which is where it stopped as Lyneham had the final say when Tom Alexander's lighting strike from 20 yards completed the scoring and unfortunately for Alexander his wonder goal was only another consolation for Lyneham who have now lost eight on the trot.
