DIVISION TWO Cooper Avon are the new pacesetters of Division Two after their 6-0 victory over Audley FC coupled with previous leaders Crown Cosmos shock 3-1 home lose against The Crown Devizes saw the two teams swap positions at the head of the table. Cooper scored three goals in each half against an Audley side who had to once again to use a patched up Chris Shipway who limped out of the match before the final whistle and manager Steve Mallard had to take over the goal keeping duties and might have played his last game after chipping a bone in his fibula. Mallard played well as a make shift keeper but couldn't prevent, James Ponsford, Tom Robinson and Simeon Mills from giving the tryemen a 3-0 half time lead. Second half goals from Josh Robinson, Simeon Mills and Jason Roach who scored from the penalty spot to make up the half dozen.
Crown Cosmos were due to play local rivals The Crown Devizes at All Cannings but they switched the game to Green Lane, Devizes were they suffered one of the shock results of the day after they were beaten 3-1 by Mark Roberts side who had previously won just one of their five matches while for Crown Cosmos (formerly Southgate Inn) it was only their second defeat in 53 league matches. Nathan Sheridan put Cosmos in front on 15 minutes when he netted from the penalty spot. The Crown Devizes replied through Matt Nash who equalised on 25 minutes. The score remained at one apiece until the 70th minutes when Leigh Wells unleashed a blistering 30-yard strike to put the visitors to Green Lane into a surprise lead. With five minutes remaining Darren Thorpe sealed a famous win for The Crown Devises when he bagged goal number three to give manager Roberts a hard fought but well deserved win.
Hullavington's good form continues but they took their time before they put FC Bradford away 5-2 but at 3-2 we were given a bit of a fright as Bradford were always in with a chance of getting something from the game. Hullavington took the lead after 15 minutes when Ben Wright chased down a long ball, Bradford's went to clear it but Wright got in the way of the clearance and ran the ball into an open net for his fifth league goal of the season. Bradford were awarded an in-direct free kick in the area after keeper Andy Newbury picked up a Jif Wilkins pass back, Mark Robinson put the ball in the net but the ref hadn't blown his whistle so the effort was ruled out, the re-take produced a booking, and finally at the third attempt Hullavington cleared the danger and the referee blew up for half time. Hullavington doubled their lead early in the second half when a James Nation through ball found Ed Wilkins one on one with keeper Aaron Harford and Wilkins slid the ball past him to make it 2-0. A third goal followed shortly afterwards a Dale Langdown pass played in Ed Wilkins once more who's shot across the face of the goal went in off the post to put the hosts three goals to the good. Hullavington then suffered a bit of a collapse, Bradford's Lee Radwell found himself unmarked at the back post and he simply slotted it past Newbury to reduce the arrears to two which became one when Lee Stevens capitalised on a rare Matt Wilkins error to put Bradford back in the game. Hullavington woke up and were fortunate when they were awarded a penalty after a Phil Garland shot was adjudged to have been handled in the box, Ed Wilkins tucked away the penalty to complete his second hat trick of the season and 13th goal in total. Hullavington's fifth goal came from Nick Cole who got on the end of a loose ball and completed the scoring which gave the winners their fourth victory of the campaign which equals their win tally from 24 games last term.
Bremhill View Social Club earned a narrow two-one victory over Sutton Benger their fifth two pointer of the season moved them into third place in the table and left Benger floundering in the relegation zone with just two points from five matches. Not for the first time this season the duo of Mark Smith and Dale Smith combined to put Bremhill View ahead, in this instance it was Mark who crossed for Dale who turned the ball home for Bremhill's opener. Five minute before half time Bremhill doubled their lead and it was another family combination who struck when Marcus Lovesey found Craig Lovesey who fired home number two which was his first ever goal for the club. Benger had the better of the second period but despite all their hard work all they had to show for their efforts was a Nick Slade goal that proved only to be a consolation.
Basement club The Horse & Groom crashed to a sixth defeat in as many games which a 7-1 home defeat at the hands of Pig & Whistle United whose revival continues, as they extended their unbeaten run to three matches, which might seem a lot but the five points that they have taken from those games has seen them shoot up the table to sixth place. James Sweetman was on target for the losers, but Nathan Mantle and Emilio Menghini combined to win the match for United and it was a case of the Teacher out doing his pupil, Mantle who is in the twilight of his playing days scored a four time while Menghini who is just staring out in senior football netted a hat trick. 16-year-old Menghini scored the opener for United before Mantle scored twice, Menghini added his second prior to Mantle completing his hat trick. Menghini then sealed his first ever three timer in adult football when he scored his third and United's sixth from the penalty spot. Mantle had the final say when he knocked home his fourth and United's seventh to wrap up a resounding victory.
