Hockey report. Ciren Ladies 2nd X1 v. Painswick. Sat. 3rd Nov.
Mitsubishi sponsored Cirencester Ladies 2nd X1 maintain their top of the League position following a conclusive victory over Painswick on Saturday.
Ciren, the hosts for this encounter at Deer Park, were again on form. As last week, it was fine passing play that brought the rewards, in the form of 4 goals. The game was fast and furious and Ciren always looked as if they wanted to win.
Matilda Granville played a determined game and deserved to open the scoring for Ciren. Their second goal came from a well worked short corner. Manda Bloomer scored form her spot on the left post. Sarah Ryan, picking up a well timed pass from Sarah Harvey hammered the third home. Charmaine Davies was well positiond on the Painswick Keeper's pads to slip number four between the posts.
Painswick have some strong front runners and were not going to take defeat lying down. Although Ciren had most of the play the visitors never stopped counter attacking. Most attacks were broken down but the few that got through were dealt with confidently by Caroline McKemey who is having an excellent season whether as goalkeeper or centre forward! The team were very greatful to Caroline for stepping into the breach, as Keeper, for this game. No goals went past her.The final score was 4-0.
Sarah Harvey was voted Player of the Match for her constructive play in midfield.
