Hockey: Devizes warmed up for their clash with Swindon this Saturday with two wins over the weekend.

The Moonraker men narrowly beat Robinsons 1-0 on Saturday and then cruised past Truro 3-0 on Sunday in the English Hockey Association Trophy.

Swindon are fourth in Premier Two, with Devizes third and midfielder Owen Alsop knows they will have to be at their best.

He said: "Swindon are flying high and have won their last four games, so we cannot rest on our laurels.

"With their excellent form, adding to the fact it is a local derby, it is sure to be a highly combative and enjoyable game."

Before the weekend, Devizes hadn't won in two games but a firm defensive display saw them beat league leaders Robinsons on Saturday.

They started brightly, constantly probing the visitors defence but struggled to find the killer ball in the final third.

But their persistence was rewarded when Roger Edwards scored from a drag flick on the stroke of half time.

With a narrow lead, Devizes sat back in the second half, allowing Robinsons to press and were saved by keeper John Rheinberg's agility as they held on.

Buoyed by their win, the Moonraker men were confident going into the last 64 of the EHA Trophy on Sunday.

Man of the match Ollie Smith scored the opener midway through the first half after Truro were torn apart down the right.

Sieg Baber doubled their advantage before half time with a fine deflection after Nick Paget nut-megged a defender.

The second period lacked much excitement with Truro looking to break quickly to alleviate Devizes' dominance.

But Devizes hit a third when Neil Powell fired a rising drive into the net.

Coach Charlie Seccombe was pleased with the result, but has now turned his attention to the trip to Swindon.

He said: "The game was about getting through to the next round. I'm not bothered who we play because the focus is all about playing Swindon next weekend."
