After a break from League matches Chippenham returned to the League with a winning performance over a young determined Bristol University team.

Chippenham started the match indifferently, trying a new formation and fielding two new players it took some time to settle down.

In this time Bristol took the dominance and constantly pressurized the new look defence, but they held strong with some excellent timed tackles from Debbie Price.

Chippenham slowly began to regain their composure and began to build some attacking moves through the midfield with joint players of the match Fiona Wanliss and Sue Hopkins working hard to track back and stop the numerous Bristol attacks.

Chippenham continued to dig deep and work hard, which was rewarded with the opening goal, which came from a well worked short corner that was fired past the stationary keeper.

This seemed to spur Bristol on even more and they continued to attack the Chippenham defence, which lead to them being awarded a short corner, which they converted but was denied by an umpiring decision that quite correctly claimed the ball did not come out of the D before being struck.

This was just the scare that Chippenham needed and they started to play more positively with some excellent driving attacks on the right from Laura Carey which lead to further short corners that unfortunately Chippenham could not convert.

Chippenham continued to pressurize the Bristol defence and gaps began to show, newcomer Jade Jackman signalled her arrival with a well fought goal, that saw a goal mouth battle and the ball just trickle over the line.

Chippenham then really capitalized with a brilliant deflected goal from a cross fired into the D by Sabina Falcone.

Chippenham went into half time with a comfortable, but hard worked 3 - 0 lead. After the whistle Chippenham seemed to sit back and Bristol started well, really working hard and wanting the win.

Bristol consistently pressurized the defence with some excellent last ditch defending by Jane Smedley and some excellent saves from "the Black Torpedo" Tracy Doughty keeping Bristol at bay for some time.

They eventually broke the deadlock with two goals in quick succession that left Chippenham needing to step up their game.

This they did and began to work hard for each other, supporting each other with some excellent passing displays which time and time again found midfielder Helen Dolman unmarked in the centre to control the match, which despite some hard work from the forwards went unconverted.

Chippenham continued to play hard, but Bristol kept on pressurizing down the right keeping defender Sarah Stenner on her toes for the entire match, which she stood up to brilliantly.

Chippenham fought well to the final whistle to secure the win which sees them move up the table to 5th position. Chippenham face Yate & S Glos next week.
