Rugby: Wootton Bassett coach Brian Smith dedicated his unbeaten side's comfortable victory over Frome on Saturday to Algarve tragedy victims Bob and Debbie Fry.

Tries from Neil Smith, Tim Gallimore, Alex Penney, Craig Isles and Duncan Fletcher sealed in-form Bassett's sixth win in seven games against the joint league leaders at Stoneover Lane.

And Smith - who was joined by around 150 people in remembering former club vice president Fry during a minute's silence before kick-off - dedicated the win to his old pal.

Smith said: "It was a very difficult day for everyone but we won that for Bob and Deb - we're all devastated.

"I knew Bob for 30 years because he was a farmer like me and we both used to play for the club, I was first team captain and he was third team captain.

"He was always at the club organising things and he was a fantastic bloke.

"He used to love singing his songs in the clubhouse while supping his pint after games.

"He would have enjoyed that one today. It's another win to our tally but we should have had it wrapped up by half-time."

Smith put Bassett ahead in the 10th minute when he took a quick tap-kick penalty and charged over the line from eight yards, before Daniel David scored the conversion.

Frome made it 7-3 when Richard Maunder converted a 30-yard penalty three minutes later, but Bassett dominated the remainder of the first half and only poor decision-making prevented them scoring more points before the break.

Yet they made amends after the interval by running in four further tries to give an accurate reflection to the scoreline.

Gallimore collected David's quick off-load before darting down the middle and over the line from 10 yards midway through the second half.

David fluffed the simple conversion and then missed a tougher one in the 66th minute after Penney had capitalised on a rolling Bassett scrum to shrug off the tackles and power over the line.

But Isles burst clear from 40 yards to touch down under the posts before Fletcher slipped a tackle to score an almost identical try in the 72nd minute, with David converting both kicks to make it 31-3.

The visitors rallied late on and Matt Maddox grabbed a consolation try at the end when he touched down in the corner from a sharp pass to the wing, with Maunder tucking over the conversion.
