WILTSHIRE golfer Jordan Smith is likely in for a month-long break from competitive action after missing the cut at last week’s Scottish Open.
The tournament represented the last chance for Smith to qualify for this week’s Open Championship at Royal Portrush, with the Derry Hill man needing to finish inside the top 10 and as one of three best non-qualified players.
However, a score of four-under through the opening two rounds at The Renaissance Club was not enough to see him through to the weekend’s action.
That means Smith misses out on a second appearance at The Open in a row, with the Bowood player having made his debut at the game’s oldest Major at Carnoustie a year ago.
Smith is expected to return to action at the European Tour’s Czech Masters event in Prague, which gets under way on August 15.
