In-form Rob Gough is aiming for a top five finish in the National Hill Climb on Sunday.
The cyclist, from Forest Farm in Chippenham, has won six of the eight hill climb races this season and completed his preparations with two third place finishes in the Catford and Bec CC Hill Climbs on Sunday, leaving him in a positive mood.
"It will be hard but with the training and effort I have put in I must look for the top five," said the 24-year-old who finished 16th in last season's 2.1 mile Cheddar Gorge event.
"I am definitely physically and mentally more prepared for it, anything lower than tenth will be gutting."
The former Chippenham Wheeler has been placed in the final 50 riders, meaning he has been recognised as a potential challenger.
"There are some top competitors and a good field but I know I have beaten some of them already, so I'm confident." said Gough, who rides for John's Bikes Race Team in Bath.
