MALMESBURY’S Louis Harvey won round eight of the Rissington Kart Club Championship this weekend as he recorded his fourth double-podium finish of the season.
Securing a third place in round seven and heading the pack in round eight, Harvey preserved a firm grip on the Rissington Kart Club Championship while he also maintained an impressive record of finishing inside the top three at every race so far this season.
Fastest in practice and Timed Qualifying on the Klaassen Motorsport ARC chassis, Harvey was looking strong for rounds seven and eight.
However, heat one dampened his spirits when the second-place driver misjudged the first corner, taking Harvey and Kilmister off the track and causing them to finish in the last two positions.
Undeterred, Harvey was dominant in heat two and, after leading for the majority of the race, took the chequered flag for the win.
As the drivers waited for their first final of the day, the rain came down, wetting the track which had started to dry just before the start.
Harvey took a gamble on the setup and went for new wets as it looked likely to rain during the race.
This turned out to be a bad decision and a set up that cost him the win.
By lap two, Harvey was into the lead and starting to pull out a good gap, but as the track dried Harvey was battling the setup, and by lap six had dropped to second before being pushed down to third on the final lap.
By the time final two had started, the track had tried and the decision as to how to set up was clear.
Harvey was determined to make up for final one and by lap two was into the lead.
He maintained this position until the chequered flag, crossing the line with a convincing four-and-a-half second gap over second-place Kilmister.
