CHIPPENHAM Golf Club will host a charity event in aid of The UK Sepsis Trust on Thursday.
The special golf event, which begins at 1pm, is being hosted by Nick Horrocks, Chippenham Golf Club’s Head Professional, and Nigel Blenkarne, PGA Master Golf Professional.
Tickets are £5 and all money goes directly to the excellent cause.
Ex-Ryder Cup golfer Peter Dawson will be launching his book ‘Now For The Back Nine’ too in an effort to raise funds for the worthwhile organisation.
Dawson will also be running three golfing clinics throughout the afternoon with book signings to follow each session.
Horrocks is especially committed to The UK Sepsis Trust as a result of personal experience.
In 2018, Horrocks life was threatened as a result of sepsis. He survived and is now committed to helping raise funds for the charity.
The UK Sepsis Trust was founded in 2012 by world-leading sepsis expert, NHS consultant Dr Ron Daniels BEM.
Its goal is to end preventable deaths from sepsis and improve outcomes for sepsis survivors.
In the UK, 52,000 lives are taken annually by sepsis.
Earlier diagnosis and treatment across the UK would save at least 14,000 lives a year.
As well as the book launch, the event will also feature golf clinics from ex-European Tour player Dawson and former professional golfer Simon Hawkins.
Devizes man Hawkins, who helped write ‘Now For The Back Nine’ alongside contributions from legendary golf commentator Peter Allis and former Ryder Cup captain Tony Jacklin, revealed Dawson’s exhibition shows are ‘very entertaining and feature some impressive trick shots.’
Copies of the book can be purchased for £20 on the day, with Dawson donating £5 of every book sold to the sepsis charity.
Discussing why he wrote the book that ‘aims to come to the aid of the senior golfer’, Dawson said: “Now for the Back Nine is written for the senior golfer by a senior golfer who understands their struggles.
“It is also more than just an instruction book, featuring as it does many anecdotes from my days on tour and some great quotations.
“It is really a golfing companion.
“Three years ago, when I was writing articles for Golf Monthly, I realised that senior golfers struggle to achieve the more physical, modern golf swing and the pragmatic, practical advice they need on how to adapt an ageing physique was nowhere to be found.
“Now for the Back Nine is my response to that.”
Ex-professional Hawkins says he sought out Dawson when his golf game was struggling to adapt to new physical restrictions after a 10-year hiatus caused by cancer treatment, major surgery and a long recovery.
He says his golf and friendship with Peter has blossomed, resulting in ‘Now For The Back Nine.’
