A very determined Chippenham third team maintained their position at the top of the league with a 10-1 demolition of Frys on Saturday.
With a largely unchanged lineup, despite losing captain Cara Smith during the week and Katie Roberts at the last minute, they kept their shape.
Chippenham applied the pressure from the pushback, with midfielders, Kate Potter and Leigh Page playing some fine, accurate passing hockey to keep Frys penned in their own half.
The pressure told as Mary Derrick powered the ball into the net from Chippenham's first short corner of the match. They then continued to pressurise the Frys defence with solid support play from Tiffany Lay and Claire Bennett providing the through balls to the waiting forwards, who did not disappoint.
Another series of short corners saw Derrick double her goal tally and Sharon Thomas open her account with an excellent flick over the advancing goalkeeper.
Chippenham then completely dominated play and a quickly taken sixteen yard hit-out from Angie Whiteside gave Amy Kick the chance to make it 4-0 at the break.
The start of the second half saw Frys' catch Chippenham's defence sleeping and score a breakaway goal. This was the catalyst for Chippenham to wake up and move up another gear. Penny Edwards was solid in Chippenham's defence and used any opportunity to move the ball upfield, turning defence into attack.
Thomas then added Chippenham's fifth and her second goal of the game, and Derrick added two more to the total.
Thomas also completed a hat-trick with an superb individual effort that saw the Frys defence left floundering as she drove forward and deftly placed the ball past the stranded goalkeeper.
Thomas then scored from the penalty spot and although the game was now out of Frys reach, Derrick wrapped it up with her fifth goal of the match.
Overall, Chippenham played a very supportive match that sees them firmly placed at the top of the table with a comfortable goal difference, which can only strengthen their promotion chances for this season.
Scorers: Mary Derrick (5), Sharon Thomas (4) and Amy Kick.
