Devizes dropped their first points of the season to leave manger Andrew Smart upset with the performance.
The Moonraker men were held to a 3-3 draw by a resilient Exeter University side on Saturday and, such are their high standards, were disappointed.
"If we are brutally honest we didn't deserve to win the game and a draw was a fair result," said Smart, who will take his side to Firebrands A on Saturday.
"We have to improve if we are going to challenge at the end of the season and I am sure the boys will react in the right way."
Exeter caused the hosts problems as Devizes struggled to deal with the quick and well organised university outfit.
But they took a first half lead through Roger Edwards' drag flick and his fourth goal in two games.
Although ahead, Devizes failed to take the game to Exeter and allowed themselves to be put under pressure but Russell McQuillan stood firm in defence.
Although he could do nothing about Exeter's equaliser, when keeper John Rheinberg was beaten following a short corner.
After the break the hosts improved but rarely looked like breaking down a robust Exeter side in a tightly contested game.
But player coach Charlie Seccombe restored their lead, converting a well worked short corner routine, although the students were level almost immediately.
They then took the lead with a scrambled effort to leave Devizes staring at their first defeat of the season.
But with five minutes to go, Seccombe equalised and had a chance to win it, but saw his penalty flick saved and Neil Powell miss the rebound.
