FA Cup Third Qualifying Round Chippenham Town 5 Bashley 1
MASTERFUL Chippenham Town breezed into the next round of the FA Cup as they hit five at home for the second game in a row.
Fresh from their 5-1 hammering of Tiverton on Tuesday, goals from David Pratt, Luke Gullick, Aaron Cornwall and a brace from Jake Reid handed them a comfortable victory over disappointing Bashley.
The Bluebirds started well and Cornwall headed weakly at David Elm before Chris Snoddy blocked Matt Parnell's shot.
The visitors were dangerous from set pieces and Ryan Moss glanced over after the hosts were undone after ten minutes.
Chippenham rallied and, after Cornwall's shot was palmed wide by Elm, they took the lead on 15 minutes.
Reid broke into the box and saw his shot deflect off Peter Castle, Elm failed to hold the ball under pressure from Gullick and Reid blasted the rebound in off the bar.
Bashley immediately threatened an equaliser when Justin Keeler flashed a shot over but Pratt made it 2-0 after 20 minutes, running on to Scott Lye's ball and firing under the error prone Elm.
Five minutes later Purnell pulled one back, powering a header past Snoddy from Craig Davis' free kick.
Bashley skipper Davis was continuing to impress and he shot wide on 32 minutes.
The ever willing Reid should have restored Chippenham's two goal advantage, but blazed woefully high after Gullick's instinctive backheel found him free in the area.
But the striker grabbed his fifth goal of the season two minutes before half time, turning and firing home past the unsighted Elm from 18 yards.
The Bluebirds hit their fourth after 58 minutes when Cornwall danced down the left and delivered the perfect cross for Gullick to head in from 12 yards.
Lye and Cornwall were then both off target as Chippenham restricted their opponents to brief furrows into their half.
The goal of the game come with 11 minutes left when the Bluebirds put together over 20 passes, culminating in Cornwall heading in Pratt's centre.
Assistant manager Tommy Callinan said afterwards: "Adie (Mings) and I are trying to preach the players have to play consistently well.
"We were looking for a repeat of Tuesday night, but we didn't think we would get it to the letter. We are very pleased."
