Ascot is a multi-purpose racecourse with flat and National Hunt events taking place throughout the year. Its most popular event is the Royal Ascot. A five-day summer festival that attracts racing fans from around the globe.
Ascot racecourse was founded in 1711 by Queen Anne, and since that day, it has always maintained a link to the Royal Family. It has been Ascots’ association with the monarchy that has kept the racecourse tradition alive after all these years.
Aintree
Aintree is home to the Grand National which has become known as “the people’s race”. The racecourse is nestled in Liverpool, and every April, the Grand National attracts large live gates and television viewers. It is estimated as many as 600 million television viewers watch the race in more than 140 countries. Founded in 1839, the high-profile UK race is the longest jumps race on the race calendar.
Epsom Downs
Epsom Downs hosts three major race events during the year, the Epsom Derby, Epsom Oaks, and the Coronation Cup are all Group 1 races and horse racing fans from all over the world pay attention to the events’ results. The racecourse opened in the 18th century and filled with history something you may not find at some of the more modern tracks in the UK.
York
When a racetrack is voted ‘Best Racecourse in Britain’ four times, it is hard to leave it off a list of the best racecourses in the UK. York is a must-see a city for tourists. It has everything a tourist would want in a destination: fabulous cuisine, quaint shops, local attractions, and of course steeped in history, just like its horse racing.
York Racecourse is home to flat racing during the summer, with its most popular even the Ebor Festival which takes place at the end of August. York’s race day experience is top-notch as you look out from an incredible grandstand watching high-quality horse racing.
