WILTSHIRE golfer Jordan Smith put together a sparking second round to climb up the leaderboard at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship today.
Derry Hill man Smith opened up the tournament with a level-par 72 on Wednesday but a six-under 66 on Thursday saw him move up into the top 25.
The 26-year-old posted six birdies in a bogey-free round and will start Thursday’s third round in a tie for 23rd place.
However, Bowood player Smith is still some six shots off the lead held by Shane Lowry on 12-under after the Irishman followed up his opening 62 with a 70 in the second round.
Smith got off to a fast start at Abu Dhabi Golf Club with a birdie at the second hole. Two more then followed at holes five and seven to see him reach the turn at three-under.
He had to wait until the 13th hole before registering another birdie, but that kick-started a run of three in six holes as Smith put together a strong finish.
Smith reached five-under with another claimed shot on number 15 before his six birdie of the day at the last completed a superb round.
