DIVISION One leaders Bromham upset the odds in the AM Print & Copy-sponsored Knockout Cup in the Chippenham & District Sunday League as they sent Premier Division side FC Lacock crashing out of the competition.

Ed Summers and Luke Child scored to give Bromham a 2-0 interval lead, and although Luke Clements halved the deficit for Lacock, Bromham held firm to secure a 2-1 win and a place in the quarter-finals.

Last season’s beaten finalists Box Rovers avoided a second-round banana skin at home to Division Two side Old Road as they edged through to the last eight with a 3-1 win.

Jon Bazley, Dan King and Rhys Lock were on target in the first half for Box, while Adam O’Keefe’s second-half effort was a consolation for Old Road.

PREMIER DIVISION

THE last time FC North Wiltshire and Bath Road met, neither team troubled the scoreboard, and the points were again shared this time around as nine-man Road held their hosts to a 2-2 draw.

Road’s Matt Spear had a penalty saved before Jake Duckett tapped in to give North Wilts a half-time lead.

Tom Stratton scored from the spot to restore parity for Road before Spear atoned for his earlier miss by putting his team 2-1 up.

However, Matt Webb spared North Wilts’ blushes with five minutes remaining when he scored from the penalty spot to level matters once more.

Basement side Bell By The Green suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of AFC Melksham.

Melksham were 3-0 ahead at the interval thanks to goals from Adam Welsh, Jordan Kirk and Marcus Humm, with James Butler coming off the bench to score Bell’s consolation.

North Star Club missed out on the chance to move out of the relegation zone for the first time this season after they were beaten 8-1 at home by Semington.

Chris Dore (2), Bobby Mitchell, Sam Malone, Scott Boyd, Mike Stevens, Nathan Keegan and Ed McCormack shared Semington’s goals, with Mike McKeller on target for Star.

DIVISION ONE

NEW Inn Wacker saw their promotion hopes derailed following a 3-1 loss away at Westbury Railway.

Jamie Hancock and Chris Burgess put Westbury 2-0 ahead at half-time, and although Harry Brennard pulled a goal back for New Inn, it proved just a consolation as a second from Burgess sealed the win for the Railwaymen.

For a second successive weekend, bottom-of-the-table Brunel gave a good account of themselves in vain as they were beaten 5-3 at home by The Foresters Arms.

Sean Meer’s hat-trick and a Jim Sandiford double won the points for the Foresters as Josh Madle (2) and Adam Gerrard replied for Brunel.

Calne United and Faded traded 10 goals in a thrilling 5-5 draw.

Calne went ahead through Rich Triani, but found themselves 4-1 down as Faded struck back with goals from Zack Manna, Billal Karmouni, Kieran Palmer and Radu Pandelicua.

Matt Fenn started the Calne fightback before second-half goals for George Madden, Jake Goodwin and Shaun Hodby put them 5-4 up, only for Zack Manna to net an equaliser for Faded.

Chippenham-based rivals Sutton Benger and Kingfisher locked horns at Stanley Park, with the latter claiming the bragging rights 5-4.

Ben Leslie’s hat-trick and two for Richie Bolter sealed the win for the Fishermen, while James Weston and Matt White scored two apiece for Benger.

DIVISION TWO

SPORTING Box held onto fourth place following a 4-3 triumph away at Biddestone.

Box fell behind to a Ryan Paggett goal, and although Adam Greeves got them back on level terms, Ryan Armstrong gave Biddestone a 2-1 half-time lead.

Box then turned things around as Mike Pattemore and two Morgan Summerfield goals put them 4-2 up before George Garraway headed in a third for Biddestone late on.

Steve Browning’s hat-trick fired 10-man White Hart to a 3-1 win away at Gloucester Conservative.

All three Browning goals came in the first half before Ollie Nash bagged a consolation for the Cons after the break.

With the top-of-the-table clash between Worton & Cheverell and Audley lost to the weather, Lion & Fiddle took full advantage as a 22-0 win over nine-man basement side Wednesday Warriors saw them grab a share of top spot.

Kieran Ramsey top scored with eight goals, Ryan Underwood hit five, Joey Cunningham got four, Alex De Silva netted a hat-trick and Jon Hogarth’s single and an own goal made up the 22.
