YOUNG Malmesbury racer Louis Harvey won the Nigel Mansell Trophy at the Rissington Kart Club annual awards ceremony.
The 14-year-old took another step towards his goal of making it into Formula One when he picked up the prestigious award at a ceremony in Tewkesbury.
The trophy was originally given to Rissington Kart Club by Formula One legend Mansell, asking them to award it to the most promising driver of the year, something Harvey more than deserved, according to the judging panel.
After receiving the award, Harvey said: “I was not expecting an award, but it is great to be recognised for more than just driving.
“Not letting things get you down when you have had a bad race result is not easy.
“I am so glad that Klaassen Motorsport, Chris Brazil from Ideal Displays in Swindon and David Mitchell from DNA-RB, who has mentored me in all aspects of being a professional driver, were here to see me pick up this trophy.
“I would also like to thank Klaassen Motorsport for their amazing support this year."
Presenting the award, Rissington club secretary Debbie Mayow was full of praise for Harvey.
She said: “The award is given to a driver with good results, a first-class overall appearance at all times, consistent mannerisms and attitude towards others, not only at Rissington but all other circuits they attend.
“They should be polite, have a professional approach to racing and understand they cannot always win.
“This driver’s determination and growth within the sport has out shone so many others who have won this year."
Sponsor David Mitchell added: “Louis has really developed as a driver on and off the track in the last two seasons and listens to the advice he’s given. I’m very proud to be one of his sponsors."
