CALNE Town moved to within three points of league leaders Welton Rovers at the weekend after securing a 1-0 win at home to Chard Town.
A first-half strike from Matthew Jenkins was enough to see the Lilywhites pick up their sixth win of the season, lifting them to fifth in the table.
The Bremhill View side are now unbeaten in their last five fixtures and have only conceded once in that time.
Reflecting on the win, joint-manager Ben Redford is delighted with the progress his side have made this season, particularly their new-found resilience.
Redford said: “The performance was excellent. We created a lot of chances and didn’t allow Chard to create one clear chance.
"They threw a lot of balls into the box but our defence dealt with it fantastically.
“The only concern, if there was any, was that we didn’t kill the game and the last 10 minutes were always going to be nervy at 1-0.
“The main difference between this season and last is that we’ve all learnt a lot, especially the way to win games in this league.
“I feel we are much more resilient and everyone is fighting for their place. The new signings we made have been a breath of fresh air.
“Our target was the top half. We are where we are now, but it’s only 11 games in.
“We must keep this up. There’s no point us beating the likes of Chard and Keynsham but then not following it up with wins and this Saturday away at Oldland.
"We must continue the way we have been playing. Who knows, if we keep winning, we will be up there, but we are keeping both feet on the ground and not getting carried away. We look at it game by game.”
Chippenham Park were forced to settle for a point at the weekend after drawing 2-2 with home side Sherborne Town, Alfie Presley and Freddie Porter got the goals for Joe Sharples’ side.
However, they went one better on Tuesday night as Tiger Harris’ goal with five minutes to go handed them just a second league win of the season as they beat Almondsbury UWE 1-0 at home.
Corsham Town have now gone three games without a win after they lost 3-0 to third-placed Keynsham Town last Saturday.
Devizes Town were without a fixture at the weekend.
- PEWSEY Vale scored a magnificent seven goals in thrashing Hellenic League Division One West bottom side Swindon College 7-0 at the weekend.
Divisional rivals Malmesbury Victoria progressed in the Wiltshire Senior Cup with a 3-2 win at home to Amesbury Town.
