PEWSEY Vale’s winless start to the season was brought to an end on Tuesday evening as they recorded a 3-1 win at home to Cirencester Town Development.
Manager Alistair Tuttle had waited 11 games for Vale to record their first win, following on from their disappointing 3-1 defeat away to Brimscombe & Thrupp in the Challenge Cup at the weekend.
Michael Martin was on target in Tuesday’s Subsidiary Cup clash, as was Josh Fowler who bagged a brace to secure their first three points of the season.
On Saturday, Ryan Banks was the only man to notch for Vale, but saw his goals cancelled out by a double from Brimscombe’s Jack Smith, plus a solitary effort from Benjamin Deakin.
Pewsey will now hope to make it two wins in a row when they travel to New College on Saturday afternoon in Division One West.
Premier Division Royal Wootton Bassett Town were knocked out of the Challenge Cup after losing 4-0 away at Gloucestershire’s Tuffley Rovers on Saturday.
Manager Sam Collier will look for a reaction from his side this weekend when they travel to Alfredian Park to face Wantage Town.
One Wiltshire team did manage to progress to the next round though.
Kevin Bridgeman’s Malmesbury Victoria experienced better fortunes as they won 3-1 at home to Chalvey Sports to make Challenge Cup progress.
Skipper Shane Bumphrey led by example for the Vics as he bagged a hat-trick to see them through to the next round of the competition.
Fourth-placed Malmesbury return to league responsibilities at the weekend, as they travel to face Cheltenham Saracens at Petersfield Park.
A win could see them draw level with league leaders Easington Sports if results fell in their favour.
