A DEPLETED Chippenham A rounded off their Central Two season in the GoCreat8 League with a 5-3 defeat away at Mendip, although it was not enough to deny them runners-up spot in the table.
With promotion already secured, Chippenham had to do without half a dozen players and Mendip roared into a 2-0 lead at half-time.
The visitors stepped up their game in the second half and brought the score back to 3-3 with 12 minutes to play through goals from Jack Stanley, Nigel Stonham and Elliot Jones.
However, Mendip scored twice more in the closing stages to seal the win.
Chippenham B were beaten 4-1 on the road at promotion-chasing Bristol & West B in their final match of the East Central One season.
Despite some defensive heroics, good all-round play and a consolation goal from Dave Mantle, Chippenham were soundly beaten to finish the season in eighth place.
A 4-3 victory for Chippenham C in their season finale at home to Team Bath Buccs G saw them claim a fifth-placed finish in East Central 2.
Chippenham flew out of the blocks and goals from Ron Ousby, Matt Baker, Tim McKendrick and Mark Dodd put them 4-0 up at the break.
Buccs rallied admirably in the second half and gave Chippenham a few scares by cutting the deficit to a single goal but solid defending eventually saw out the win.
Chippenham D compete in the same division but finished at the bottom of the standings after slipping to a 4-0 loss away at third-placed West Wilts B in their final match of the campaign.
