DEVIZES brought county rivals Marlborough’s unbeaten start to the GoCrea8 League Conference North campaign to a shuddering halt as they wrapped up a 2-0 victory on Saturday.
In a solid first half, Devizes dominated possession and territory but couldn’t find a finishing touch.
Eventually, though, the pressure told and Roger Edwards converted a short-corner routine, followed by a deflected finish for Ollie Smith just before half-time.
Despite spending the majority of the second period on top, Devizes couldn’t find a third, Edwards seeing a penalty flick saved before they withstood late Marlborough pressure to confirm their triumph.
Chippenham continue to fly high in Central One, Saturday’s 3-1 home win against Westbury UB A being their sixth on the trot at the start of the season.
Billy Whitaker’s initial attempt was saved but Mark Knight closed in to score the opener before Craig Kilminster doubled the advantage before half-time.
Olly Whitaker netted the third in the second half to send Chippenham into a top-of-the-table clash against Clifton Robinsons B this coming weekend in good shape.
Chippenham A stayed in touch with the Central Two leaders as they won 4-2 at bottom-placed Taunton Civil Service.
The visitors led at the interval as midfielder Dave Thomas slotted home but Taunton equalised after half-time.
Elliot Jones restored the advantage but Taunton hit back again almost immediately.
Strikers Nigel Stonham and Henry Price combined to put Chippenham ahead for a third time before defender Craig Stewart deflected home the fourth.
Chippenham B claimed their first home win of the season in East Central One as they downed City of Bath C 4-1, Dewi Evans’ double, including a penalty flick, Jonty Richards and Will Thompsett netting, while in East Central Two, Chippenham C lost 3-1 at West Wilts B, Mark Dodd on target.
