MARLBOROUGH Ladies first were unable to get their season off to a winning start in the East Division as they suffered a 4-1 defeat to Chippenham.
Having come into the game on the back of a friendly success over Royal Wootton Bassett, Marlborough were unable to build on that result.
The visitors took a 3-0 lead despite the best efforts of keeper Vicky Moxham, while Neve Beer, Bella Busby, Milly Dawson and Tess Christmas all went came close.
After the interval, the hosts kept Chippenham a lot quieter, however, they managed to find a way through to bag their fourth.
The hosts kept battling until the end with Rachel Cox grabbing a late consolation for her team. Amy Davidson was named Marlborough’s player of the match.
The third team, however, got their season off to a flying start with a 9-4 success over City of Bath 2nd in Wessex Division Two.
After some good work from Millie Prentice the hosts took the lead before player of the match Millie Morgan bagged the first of her four.
Elsie Slater was also on target for the Marlborough, while Debbie James also got her name on the score sheet.
