CHIPPENHAM A turned in a strong second-half performance to claim a 4-2 success at home to Weston-super-Mare in Central 2 of the GoCrea8 League.
The visitors were a fast and skilful outfit but Chippenham were out of the blocks quickly and earned their first penalty corner within the first five minutes. This was slipped to Andy Edwards, who fired into the bottom corner to break the deadlock.
Weston fought back and earned a penalty corner themselves, which was slipped short and struck at goal, deflecting off Chippenham keeper Harry Wells to level the scores.
Chippenham raised their game and a sublime piece of skill from James Hamilton saw him take the ball past a defender before burying into the net.
The visitors not give up and came back to earn a further penalty corner. Chippenham captain Darren Bean stopped the effort on the line, however, was deemed to have then struck his leg and Weston despatched the resulting penalty strike to head into half-time level.
The second half was a hard-fought contest, with both teams exchanging forays into the opposing half and several cards earned as a result of the rising tension.
Parity was eventually broken when Archie Wright fired the ball home to edge Chippenham back into the lead before a further goal from Henry Price finished the job for the hosts.
