CHIPPENHAM go in to the Christmas break at the top of the GoCrea8 Men’s League’s Central One division after another hard-fought victory at Wootton Bassett.
The home side struck first before Nick Middleton levelled for Chippenham just before half time.
Chippenham were more dominant in the second half and Luke Morris scored the winner, deflecting home at the far post at a penalty corner.
Chippenham A moved to second in East Central Two with a convincing 6-3 win over Wootton Bassett A.
Despite going behind early on to a Wootton Bassett penalty stroke and then missing one of their own, two goals each from Mark Bonner and Henry Price, plus strikes from Nigel Stonham and captain Darren Bean wrapped it up.
At Devizes A, Chippenham B were effectively reduced to nine players with injuries to Tim McKendrick and Dane Joiner and went down 7-0.
The home side scored three goals in the first 15 minutes, with Sam Hodge starting the scoring with an excellently-placed penalty flick.
Devizes were 5-0 up at half time and goals by Michael du Boulay and Thomas Stoner in the second half sealed the win.
In East Central Two, Chippenham C lost 2-0 at home to promotion chasing Marlborough B, conceding a goal in each half.
Chippenham D came back from 3-1 down at West Wilts D, after Chris Isherwood had given them the lead early on.
They secured a 3-3 draw through second-half goals from Jonty Richards and Mark Goodway’s late equaliser.
