MARLBOROUGH kept pace with Central 1 leaders Chippenham with a 10-4 success at home to Mid-Somerset.
The home side started the goal rush when Anil Sud poked home Matt Way’s cross but the lead was short-lived as a mazy dribble from Mid Somerset brought back parity at 1-1.
A bizarre 15 minutes followed, with both sides trading goals regularly. Sud got his second and third of the day, only for Mid Somerset to reply with two of their own.
However, Sud then hit the net again to put Marlborough 4-3 up at half-time.
Knowing they needed to up their game to cement the win, Marlborough came out all guns blazing in the second half and skipper Rich Holman got the ball rolling again from a short corner.
Matt Way then got in on the action with a deft finish from close range and the game looked done and dusted when Gareth Playfair struck home shortly afterwards.
Will Radnedge then produced a moment of magic as he skipped forward and flashed an excellent strike into the far corner of the net.
Mid Somerset pulled a goal back following persistent play but the deficit was too great.
In the final few minutes, Sud added to his tally with a sweep home from close range and then got his sixth goal from the final play.
Chippenham men’s first team returned to winning ways with a 3-2 win in a dogged performance against Old Bristolians.
Strikes from Nick Middleton (2) and Mark Knight kept them top of the table on goal difference.
Chippenham A remain second in East Central 1 after Mark Bonner and Guy Barrett hit the net in a 2-1 victory over West Wilts B.
Chippenham B were beaten 4-0 by City of Bath B, while Chippenham C secured a 7-36 success over West Wilts D, with Steven Jackson (3), Mike Spurrier (2), Mark Dodd and Sam Reed on target.
Joe Saunders’ goal could not prevent Chippenham D going down 4-1 to Swindon B.
Corsham Ladies beat Wessex Division 1 leaders Chippenham 2nd 4-3.
A goal from Beck Davison-Smith saw Corsham trail 2-1 at the break before further strikes from Lucy Stanley, Vickie Hathway and Mel Bessell turned the game around after the break.
Corsham 2nd went down 8-0 to their Wootton Bassett counterparts, while they fared slightly better in the battle of the third teams, only losing that one 7-1.
