CHIPPENHAM men’s first team moved three points clear at the top of the Central One table when they continued their 100 per cent start to the season with a 13-3 win at home to Mid-Somerset.
Chippenham were always in command and although Mid Somerset got back to 1-1 early in the game, a double hat-trick from Mark Wright and a treble from Nick Middleton meant that Chippenham never looked to be in trouble.
Chippenham A came off second best in their top-of-the-table clash with Marlborough A, going down 1-0.
Marlborough were forced to defend in their own half throughout the last 25 minutes and despite a succession of penalty corners, Chippenham were unable to find an equaliser.
Chippenham B’s eight-match unbeaten run also came to an end as they lost 5-0 away at Bath Buccs E, although the final scoreline did not reflect the effort by all concerned.
The club’s only other side to get on the scoresheet were Chippenham C against Bath Buccs G, through goals from Ian Gould and Neil Stewart. However, a couple of breakaways in the second half saw Bath Buccs run out 5-2 winners.
Chippenham D came up against strong opposition in Marlborough B, the top side in East Central 2, and despite some fine saves by John Stanley, the side tired in the second half and eventually went down 6-0.
