MARLBOROUGH went fourth in Davis Wood League Central One as they toppled North Somerset 2-1.
The visitors had defeated leaders Chippenham a day earlier but Marlborough started the brighter of the two sides.
The game looked to be heading to half-time goalless until a momentary lapse by Marlborough allowed North in for a well-taken goal against the run of play.
The second half began with Marlborough dominant in possession.
Midway through they levelled after a short-corner routine rebound saw captain Rich Holman deftly place his shot over a North player’s stick.
Marlborough looked like the most likely to score from there on in and soon took the lead when Holman scored his second of the game with a thunderous reverse-stick strike following another short corner break down.
North pressed forward but were unable to find an equaliser.
- CHIPPENHAM’S second string stayed in touch with the East Central One leaders by beating Bristol UWE C 3-1.
Chippenham were always in control following a trademark short-corner rocket from Selwyn Widger.
The goal of the game came from a series of passes from Darren Hillier and Widger, finished by a flying James Hamilton arriving at the back post.
Although the university pulled one back, goal-poacher Chris Newton finished off from close range to ensure the result was never in doubt.
Chippenham B defeated City of Bath B 3-2, with veteran striker Henry Price and Elliott Jones to the fore.
Chippenham C lost 2-0 at Shepton Mallet B in East Central Two.
