CHIPPENHAM kept up the pressure on Davis Wood League Central One leaders Yeovil & Sherborne and dented the promotion ambitions of county rivals Marlborough with a 2-0 victory on Saturday.
The visitors eventually took the initiative after a scrappy start to the game and their pressure was rewarded when Mark Knight slotted home a short corner routine to open the scoring.
Stung into action, Marlborough pressed forward but were unable to convert several chances.
The home side again started the second half brightly, but Chippenham worked hard in defence to keep them at bay.
When the ball was turned over the visitors attacked with pace and purpose leading to goalkeeper Brian Marnane being called upon for several sharp saves.
However, the pressure again told and midway through the second half Chippenham doubled their lead after an attacking overload allowed a free shot which was buried by Knight.
Several more chances went begging for the hosts with the post being hit and several acrobatic saves from Chippenham goalkeeper Leo Barker.
Devizes slipped to a 4-1 Conference North defeat at Whitchurch A, while East Central Two leaders Corsham thrashed West Wilts D 7-0.
