RALLY star Elfyn Evans will appear at the 14th Rallyday at Castle Combe circuit on Saturday, September 20.
Evans, part of the M-Sport World Rally Team, is scheduled to demo a WRC liveried Fiesta R5, piloting it in the headline Castrol Edge Feature Stage.
The young Welshman has stepped up to the top level in the FIA World Rally Championship this season and has put in impressive performances behind the wheel of his Fiesta RS WRC, recently matching his best overall result to date, with a brilliant fourth place overall on Rallye Deutschland (August 21-24).
M-Sport also plans to display Mikko Hirvonen’s Monte Carlo-winning Ford Fiesta S2000 from 2010, as well as Colin McRae’s Safari-winning Ford Focus WRC from 1999.
“It’s great to be back at another UK event and I’m really looking forward to catching up with all of the UK rally fans. Rallyday has always been a great event and I hope that we can put on a good show for all of the spectators that come out to see us,” said EVans.
Rallyday organisers Darin Frow and Jo Stubbings are pleased to see M-Sport return for the ninth year in succession.
“With all the commitments M-Sport have with the World Rally Championship, and being in Australia the week before Rallyday for the event there, Jo and I are gobsmacked they are supporting this year’s show with their largest ever display of cars. We can’t wait to welcome Elfyn back too as he was hugely entertaining in 2013 and said he wanted to return this year - so we are all happy,” said Frow.
Andy Dawson has also confirmed his attendance as part of the celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of the Lancia Stratos.
Dawson was the first person to tame a Stratos in the forests by winning the Mintex International in 1976. He is also the only driver to have driven all three versions of the Stratos in competition.
Finally, Graham Middleton in conjunction with Goodridge UK and Wiltshire College will be running a workshop at the event, entitled: ‘How to get into Rallying’.
The college have opened their doors and there will be displays as well as a couple of scheduled light-hearted talks from Graham for anyone wanting to learn about how to get into the sport.
Unofficial 1978 World Rally champion Markku Alén is due to make his Rallyday debut, driving a Lancia 037 he drove in the mid-1980s and the Toyota Celica GT4 that took him to fourth on the 1992 Lombard RAC Rally.
Harri Toivonen, five-time WRC event winner Markko Martin, British Rally champions David Llewellin, Russell Brookes and Gwyndaf Evans, the latter Elfyn’s dad, and Phil Collins are also set to appear.
Toivonen and Llewellin will both be at Rallyday specifically to mark the 30th birthday of the Metro 6R4, which should see a line-up of over 20 International and Clubmans cars.
Tickets for Rallyday 2014 are on sale now, with advance tickets for adults costing £15 (if booked before 5th September) or £20 on the day. Accompanied children under 16 go free.
