Wrag Barn youngster Max Drayton and Chippenham’s Alexandra Feltham were deserving winners of the Hills Wiltshire Junior Golf Championships held at Ogbourne Downs.
They came out on top in a field of 50 young players from across the county on a day when the rain held off but the strong wind presented a challenge.
Drayton recorded an impressive 72, including five birdies, but he was chased all the way by Wrag Barn playing partner Jamie Cooper.
His bid fell apart at the long 13th where a treble bogey 7 ended his run. Both boys finished the last four holes 1 under par with Cooper having to settle for second with 75.
Feltham carded 84, which was enough on count back to take the title over Natasha Chapman of Marlborough, who also finished with an 84.
The best Nett score on the day came from 12-year-old Connor Askey (Bowood GC), only 12-years old, whose gross 84 off a 16 handicap returned a nett 68, one clear of Benjamin Wakeley from Wrag Barn.
David Lewis, secretary of the Wiltshire County Golf Union, said: “It was great to see so many young golfers, ranging from as young as 6 up to 18 years old, enjoy the competition.
“They were given a very warm welcome by the Ogbourne Downs Golf Club members and staff who turned out in numbers to help on the day. Many thanks to all those who made the day such a success and we will look forward to the 30th anniversary of the Hills Wiltshire Junior Championship in 2015.”
