A FEW more workmanlike 1-0 victories would be just the ticket for Chippenham Park manager Dave Ferris after his side’s 11-goal thriller on Tuesday night.

Park saw their lead clawed back three times and were forced to come from behind twice as they came out on the right end of a spectacular encounter with Radstock Town, with Ferris’ men running out 6-5 winners.

“I think that any neutrals watching the game might have thought they were watching the tie-break of a tennis match,” said the Park boss.

“We went 2-0 up with two cracking goals but even then, I knew that we weren’t safe because we were up against a very good side in Radstock.

“I think that we showed great character to come out on top in the end and Tim (Smith, assistant manager) and I stood there at the end thinking what a great game it must have been for the neutrals.

“We have scored 13 goals and scored six goals twice in the last two games but we’ve also conceded nine and that’s a little bit of a concern.

“Three 1-0 victories would have been even better for me but that’s not how it’s happened and we can just look forward to the Devizes Town game now.”

Phil Baker’s long-range lob and Mark Nolan’s strike out Park 2-0 up in Somerset before the home side roared back with a goal either side of half-time.

Martin Johnson and Ollie Webb twice restored the visitors’ lead after Radstock had hit back and with the scores level at 4-4, the home side struck again to take a 5-4 lead.

But Josh Ferguson popped up with another Park goal before Ryan Campbell fired in the winner with less than five minutes remaining.

Ferris’ men take on local rivals Devizes Town at Hardenhuish Park next weekend.

Penalty pain for hosts Devizes

Devizes Town were unable to put the brakes on unbeaten Almondsbury UWE as they slipped to defeat at Nursteed Road on Tuesday evening.

Justin Webster and Darran Walters’ men were undone as they succumbed to an 85th minute penalty, which was dispatched by the visitors’ John Rugman as Almondsbury notched up their third victory in as many games in the Toolstation League First Division.

On Saturday, Devizes slipped to another home defeat as they were beaten 2-1 by Ashton & Backwell United.

Midfielder Tom Price struck to put Devizes in front but the visitors levelled matters before clinching all three points and breaking home hearts with a last-gasp 90th minute winner.
