POTTERNE chairman Fred Kerley says that his side will continue to fight all the way to the conclusion of the Premier Two promotion battle.

The villagers were unable to pull off an upset as they suffered a six-wicket defeat at the hands of league leaders Ilminster last weekend but Potterne still find themselves just four points behind second-placed Clevedon with two games to go.

“Ilminster and Clevedon play each other this weekend and Clevedon have then got a match against Keynsham, who aren’t out of it at all,” said Kerley.

“We didn’t manage to beat Iliminster but we’ve got two massive games left and we’ll keep going to try and get ourselves promoted - that hasn’t changed.”

Potterne were put in to bat and the hosts’ James Thompson (4-35) piled on the pressure, with Sahan Wijerathne (30) top-scoring for Neil Clark’s men as they were restricted to 171-8.

For a second time this season, Louis Kraucamp proved the scourge of Potterne as he hit an unbeaten 90 to guide his side to victory, with Rayner Blitz adding 35 as Ilminster reached 172-4 in the penultimate over.

Elsewhere, Goatacre notched up a two-wicket win over Glastonbury.

The visitors’ Harry Ellison hit 105 but Goatacre’s Stan Alsop and Matt House both took four wickets to skittle Glastonbury for 214 in the 42nd over The home side then reached 215-8 in the 40th over.

  • Potterne Ladies claimed victory over Marshfield in their first-ever game last Friday, dismissing their visitors for 73 before reaching 74-3 in eleven overs.
