BURBAGE & Easton Royal skipper Tom Wallbridge would love to see his champions-elect set the record straight against rivals Purton this weekend.

Wallbridge’s league leaders slipped to a crushing eight-wicket loss at second-placed Purton on June 28 and the two sides meet in a re-match at the Red Lion Field on Saturday, with Burbage looking to secure the Wiltshire Division crown.

“Purton hammered us when we went over to their place and it would be nice to put things right this weekend,” said captain Wallbridge.

“There’s a good gap at the top of the league and as long as we perform in our last two games, the league should take care of itself.

“Purton are a good team and I think it’s going to be a good game – we’re looking forward to it.”

Adam Lavis played a major role in Burbage’s 51-run win over Devizes last weekend.

After being put in to bat first, Wallbridge’s men got off to a difficult start, with their first six wickets falling for 94 runs, but Lavis stepped up to hit 42 and help the home side post 177-9.

The hosts’ Lavis then piled the pressure on Devizes as he took 5-22, with Joe Wookey’s visitors skittled for 126 early in the 44th over.

Elsewhere, third-placed Marshfield beat Trowbridge by three wickets in a low-scoring encounter whilst Marlborough recorded a comfortable 77-run victory at home against Nationwide House.

Tom Norris’ men scored 233-6 off their 50 overs after being put in to bat, with opener Nick Crabbe hitting an elegant 75 whilst youngster James Richardson contributing with an unbeaten 57.

In reply, despite 52 not out from Nationwide’s Anthony Pettifer and 37 from his brother Roger, Nationwide never looked like chasing down their victory target as they finished on 156-9.

Julian Kearney was in irresistible form with the bat as he hit a scorching unbeaten 111 in Calne’s 44-run win at Winsley.

Stuart Windsor (41) and Tom Richards (39) also chipped in for Dan Knight’s visitors, who posted a formidable 287-6.

Stuart Hammond spearheaded Winsley’s run chase with his knock of 84, with Jeremy Smith and Kevin Hendy both also weighing in with 39 apiece, but Calne’s Richards took 4-33 to turn the screw, with the home side all out for 243 in the penultimate over.

Meanwhile, Great Bedwyn slipped to a seven-wicket loss at Purton.

Neil Maycock top-scored with 45 as John Palmer’s men were dismissed for 110 in little more than 31 overs.

The hosts’ Aakarshit Gomel took 4-15 before Purton cruised to 112-3.
