MARK Collier believes six points out of a possible nine represents a satisfying start to Chippenham Town’s Southern League Premier Division campaign.
The Bluebirds got their home programme under way – following back-to-back away fixtures to start the season – with a 3-0 success against Arlesey Town at Hardenhuish Park on Saturday.
Former Swindon Town midfielder Alex Ferguson fired home the opener on 28 minutes and the home side were fully in command a minute before the break as skipper Alan Griffin – playing for the first time this season after a groin injury – fired home the second.
Zac Evans hit the crossbar from long range in the second period but the points were wrapped up as Luke Ballinger fired home a free kick late on.
Collier said: “It was a good win and I thought we played particularly well in the first half. The job was done then, to be honest – we scored two decent goals and we saw it out quite comfortably.
“(I was pleased) with the way we started. We got on the front foot early and had a couple of early chances. We kept the ball quite well and out movement was good going forward.
“It’s good considering we are still three of four short and having had two away games to start with.
The Bluebirds travel to Dorchester Town on Tuesday night with wing James Guthrie poised to return after serving a suspension and striker Lee Phillips, who also missed out on Saturday, also in contention.
Bryan Smith and Ellis Dunton remain on the casualty list, while Ferguson will be monitored after receiving a dead leg at the weekend as will Griffin, who was sore after his first match back.
Collier added: “Dorchester is a good place to go and play. They’ve been relegated from Conference South so I’m sure they will be determined to get back to where they think they belong.’’
