Retired nurse Dot Cleverly, 70, of St John’s Close in Marlborough, believes this picture was taken outside the former Wingrove and Edge Tannery in Angel Yard, Marlborough.
Her late aunt, Dorothy Richings, is pictured in the front row, fourth from right. However Mrs Cleverly does now know what the occasion was.
Gazette reporter Nigel Kerton suspects this was not a photograph of tannery staff, but is a picture of laundry workers. There is a laundry basket in the bottom right hand corner.
Can any of our readers throw any light on the group and the occasion?
Meanwhile last week’s picture elicited a response from a couple of readers.
Dennis Cripps, president of Marlborough town Football Club, believes the picture is not of the club itself, but of a British Legion team set up after the war which used to play Dagenham British Legion.
He also pointed out his uncle, Albert Cripps, pictured between Tom Cook and Waggle Bull.
Another reader said the man identified as Mr Ford is Mr Long and that the man identified as Mr Webber is Mr Cooper.
