MIchael Poole has sent us these pictures of the Women of the Civil Defence (Welfare Section) taken with a Koday Brownie on July 30, 1957.

Mr Poole says they built a dustbin oven – with a new dustbin – to cook for 200 people. Some of those catered for were Swedish Scouts who were in the area before a World Scout Jamboree at Sutton Coldfield in the Midlands.

Mr Poole believes that the woman in uniform in the front was county welfare officer Miss Coleman with the stores officer, known as Chiefee. The other eight were Sherston women including Mr Poole’s mother and aunt.
