Swindon’s Wessex Male Choir is enjoying competition success yet again following the biennial International Choir Festival of Jersey.
The troupe scooped the Male Choir award at the prestigious festival, which was hosted by Gareth Malone, presenter of BBC2’s ‘The Choir’.
It attracted choirs from across the world including from Holland, Ireland, Norway and Slovenia, as well as the UK. Nearly 40 choristers from Wessex Male Choir wowed judges with performances of ‘Do You Hear The People Sing’ from Les Miserables, ‘Me and My Shadow’ and ‘What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor’. The choir was judged on a number of criteria including musicianship, technique and presentation.
Wessex Male Choir also performed at two churches in Jersey and staged a concert for 300 children at the Victoria College Preparatory School, where it sang McFly’s ‘It’s All About You’. The choir concluded the festival by performing in the festival finale at Fort Regent, overlooking Jersey’s capital, St Helier.
