Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service attended a serious house fire at Mannington Park in Swindon on Saturday morning.
On arrival at the scene, fire crews were faced with a major fire on the ground floor of the property. Four fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus with two hose reels entered the house to extinguish the blaze.
They were assisted by crews using positive pressure ventilation fans to ventilate the superheated flammable gases and smoke from the property. A thermal imaging camera was also used.
The fire was quickly brought under control and the adjacent properties were protected from any fire spread. The elderly resident was lucky enough to escape and was not injured in the fire.
A total of 20 firefighters from Swindon, Stratton and Westlea attended the scene, including an aerial platform and a damage control unit.
An investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the fire but it is not thought to be suspicious.
