Wolseley up for sale after 40 years

The Beatles had just released Sergeant Pepper, Harold Wilson was the Prime Minister and the Vietnam War was raging when he bought the Wolseley 16/60.

But now the 87-year-old , of Old Town, Swindon, says he doesn't use the car enough.

The car, bought new for £760 from Jozef's native Poland, is still in full working order, having recently passed its MoT.

The 1.6 litre engine is in good condition and Jozef says he never has any trouble starting it.

Mr Dudzik said: "It has been used normally every day in the family from new.

"Three of my four children learned to drive in it, and now my grandson Sebastian is also insured and drives it occasionally, usually to go and get me petrol from one of the few places which still sell four-star leaded.

"It would be a real shame to see it go to scrap once I go.

"The engine and mechanics have been looked after with spark plugs, oil, water and any other maintenance also being carried out whenever required.

"Even now after 40 years the car starts first time, better than newer cars even."

The car has seen some action, not just in Wiltshire.

"In 1968 my wife Jozefa and my two eldest daughters Terri and Krysia travelled to Poland to visit family," said Mr Dudzik.

"My eldest daughter Terri drove all the way as my wife couldn't drive at the time and my other daughter was too young.

"Three females in a limo, as it was regarded at the time in Poland, travelling across the whole of Europe in those days caused quite a stir.

"In another trip Krysia managed to hit 90mph in West Germany, even though the car only has 100mph on the speedo.

"It also made a trip to the south of France at the end of the 1970s, transporting four adults and two children, a packed boot and a roof rack.

"The car is now sadly for sale as I do not use it enough and there is no point to it standing in the garage not being used."

The only mechanical problem, which has started to crop up recently is that the clutch sticks occasionally.

The car - affectionately known as King Henry Richard, the letters on the number plate - has blue and grey leather interior with wood trim.

It also has many spares including a front windscreen and dashboard.

Mrs Dudzik, 82, who arrived in England in 1946, added: "I will be extremely sad to see it go. It has been like one of the family.

"We are all hoping it will go to a great home."

The couple, who this year celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary on Easter Sunday, have four children - Terri, 58, Krysia, 49, Lizzie, 48, and Eddie, 46.

They also have five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
