The retiring chairman of Seend community centre was recognised for many years of service by having a tree planted in his name.
Peter Fisher took part in an informal ceremony at the centre as his wife Pat, as well as friends and colleagues, watched him help to plant a magnolia in the grounds.
In making the presentation, past chairman Robin Heatley said: “Peter’s name has been synonymous with the centre and its predecessors for over 25 years as president, trustee and chairman.”
Previously known as the Seend Social Club, it was largely funded and built by the villagers themselves in the 1970s, but by 2004 it was clear that it was in dire financial straits.
Mr Fisher undertook the lion’s share of the work of amalgamating the club with the Seend Trust, of which he is a trustee, and gaining charitable status.
Mr Fisher said: “I am honoured to be recognised, and delighted to see the centre once more on a secure financial footing.”
